Autumn 2016

Still Green!

Six of our parks in Hertsmere are still officially among the best in the UK!

A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that a park or green space has the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.

Our park with the longest running award history is King George Recreation Ground in Bushey which has held the prestigious accolade for an impressive 18 years. Not far behind is Oakmere Park in Potters Bar which has received the annual award 14 times, Aberford Park in Borehamwood has held a Green Flag for nine years and Parkfield in Potters Bar has been awarded it eight times.

Fishers Field Nature Reserve in Bushey received a special Green Flag Community Award for the eighth time in recognition of work carried out by local volunteers who manage the site in partnership with the council. Elsewhere in Bushey, Bushey Rose Garden received Green Heritage Site accreditation because of its historic features and standard of conservation, for the sixth year in a row.

When visiting your local park please use the litter and recycling bins provided and pick up after your dog to help us keep it looking beautiful! Our Parks team, our ground maintenance contractor John O'Conner, Hertsmere Leisure which manages our parks events and our friends groups all make a huge contribution to the upkeep of the parks across the borough.

Stay active this winter!

There's no excuse for being a couch potato this coming winter. It's easy to stay active with various pieces of fitness equipment in many of our parks plus interactive dance and sports equipment in Meadow Park and Aberford Park, Borehamwood.
